This is a simple outline of the available Kingdoms on Peradia that your character can be a part of. It is not meant to glorify or damn one Kingdom or another, just a little something to help you decide what Kingdom you think your character would fit best in!
ATLERION KINGDOMPronounced at-ler-ian
Currently under the rule of insert Nobie’s character hereLocation: Northern Highlands of Peradia
Much like the cold mountain range that they call home, the people of the Atlerion Kingdom are distant from outsiders and cautious when it comes to making big decisions. In many ways, they are extremely mysterious to the rest of Peradia. Locked away in their chilly mountain homes, hidden behind walls and toiling away in gem mines, not much is known about them by the other Kingdoms (and they like it like that!). They are the second oldest Kingdom in Peradia and formed just fifty years after the fall of modern society.
Just like any Kingdom, they are a proud set of people with their own quirky ways and ideals, and are happily distant from the rest of Peradia –seeing that they feel isolation is the safest thing for them. When presented with adversity, they tend to sit back and study the situation before choosing to act, and very few Atlers charge head first into a situation without weighing the pros and cons of any little detail. They are deep thinkers and tend to be very wise in anything they do, their elders are highly sought out for their knowledge of the way the world works and are greatly honored in their culture. 150 years of existence has taught these people how to live within the rocky landscape and still prosper.
Outsiders have a tendency to be ostracised from the rest of the population - particularly if they've been known to have been affiliated with a previous Kingdom. It takes a lot of work and a lot of trust building for an outsider to work their way up in the Atlerion society. It’s not that they don’t trust newcomers; it’s that they don’t trust newcomers’ ambitions and reasons for seeking refuge in their Kingdom. Not to mention when threatened, the Atlerion are always the first to call for battle.
3 common traits of an Atler:
- Distant
- Cautious decision maker
- Wise
ITALUS KINGDOMPronounced eye-tall-us
Currently under the rule of Jarrod BodeLocation: Eastern Valleys of Peradia
The Italus Kingdom has been around ever since the crumble of structured society and is the mother of the Romador and Atlerion Kingdom, as both their founding Kings and Queens came from the Italus Kingdom. While they are by far the oldest Kingdom in Peradia (being the first to form directly after the downfall of the Old World), they are hardly prosperous. Back in their time, before two more Kingdoms added to the strain of the economy, the Italus Kingdom was a rich and vibrant Kingdom.
Unfortunately now, age has nothing to do with prosperity. Much like the Atlerion Kingdom, Italuns are hardly receptive to outsiders, but not because they are wary of their intentions, but because they do not know how many more people their land can support before it fails all together. Being a poor fishing community living on the banks of the Peradia river and several other lakes that surround them, there’s not a lot of resources to go around. Oddly enough, they are accepting of inter-cultural diversity and tend to welcome changes.
Being one of the oldest Kingdoms, families in the Italus Kingdom are extremely important. It is rare to hear of an Italun leaving their home to go to another Kingdom or simply giving up Kingdom life all together to become a Gypsy. Most of the people that inhabit the Italus Kingdom have been there for generations and have no plans of leaving. Of course, with fairly extreme poverty comes the knowledge on how to spend your money wisely. Deals and discounts tend to be a bit of an obsession with an Italun, it’s just something that seems to be a part of their DNA almost. Most Italuns can smell a sale from a mile away and have no problems with haggling at a market (they’re proud about their abilities to barter and trade). They are hardly jealous of another man’s success (instead they praise and celebrate him), and know the value in the ‘smaller things’ in life. Should a fight come knocking at an Italun’s door, they will do their best to talk their way out of it and be the first to back down, as they simply cannot afford such a thing, not to mention the Italus Kingdom has historically never really been involved with Peradian politics, mostly being like the Switzerland of the New World.
3 common traits of an Italun:
- Accepting
- Frugal
- Close-knit family units
ROMADOR KINGDOMPronounced row-muh-door
Currently under the rule of Miles WhiteLocation: Southern Hilltops of Peradia
Founded by Idocus White, the Romdor Kingdom is the youngest and most prosperous Kingdom of Peradia. Being new may have its many perks, but they do not have the experience at being a part of the feudal system as an official Kingdom like the Italus and Atlerion Kingdom do. Only having existed for a little under one hundred years, it seems that the rulers of the Romador Kingdom live hot and fast and have hardly had any time to make much of a lasting impression on Peradia, however they have managed to keep the throne all in the family, passed down from father to son.
More importantly, however, is that the Romador Kingdom is perhaps the quirkiest of the three Kingdoms. Being new and having little difference between the rich and the poor means that the people here are overgenerous and tend to love holding festivals and feasts without little thought of how much it will cost them. They are rich farmers and farm the hilltops of Peridia with ease. Markets held here are lively and generally entertaining to attend. Most people come for the pure amusement of all the Ritz that gets put on.
To match their vast amounts of wealth and self-worth, any Romadorian is proud, generally borderline arrogant. They do not do it to harm anyone; it’s simply what they’ve been taught. They believe they are the best Kingdom and are not afraid to flaunt their riches. More importantly, the Romador Kingdom tends to drive the economy of Peradia, with a constant influx and vast outflow of money and traded items, when the economy’s in a slump; it’s always safe to turn to a Romadorian to get it back up on its feet, and they’ll do it without question. When times are good they party, and when times are tough they party harder –such is how they live.
Unfortunately, the downside of the vast amount of riches brings in the gossipmongers and dramatic tendencies that run like a wildfire during a drought throughout the Romador Parish and Kingdom. There’s hardly ever any privacy from your neighbor, they know who you’re sleeping with and when, they know what you had for dinner, and they probably know that you have smuggled items hidden under your mattress. Most people hardly complain, but just as any dramatic rumor can be, sometimes there are big consequences to the gossip. When times of Kingdom conflict roll around, you can bet that the Romadorians know who’s fighting who and when; and they too (like the Atlers) will stand up for their rights and be the first to charge in and draw the first blood.
3 common traits of a Romadorian:
- Arrogant
- Overgenerous
- Dramatic
GYPSY Currently headed by SadeLocation: Actetova Forest (main campsite)
Just as the name suggests, the gypsies are…gypsies. They live in bands and pay no mind to the kingdoms that seek to rid the Western Badlands. The largest band of gypsies resides in the Actetova Forest in the Western Badlands currently under the jurisdiction of Sade. These people are tough and know how to survive without express luxuries like a roof over their head or a herd of cattle nearby at their disposal. The lands beyond the three Kingdoms are unforgiving and cruel. So too are some of the gypsies. However it is important to understand that most people who prefer to life in these bands rather than the feudal Kingdoms do not wish for violence, they just wish for a life that isn’t beneath the oppressing power of a monarch. Unfortunately, there are outlaws and criminals that call the Badlands home as well. Life as a roaming nomad is hard on the mind, body, and soul. Most of the people who have chosen to be gypsies are hardly there by choice, rather they’re the disowned misfits of Peradia and are simply seeking solace in the company of those who share their pain of not belonging.
All things considered, the Pradian gypsies are a fiercely loyal to their own survival cause type of people. Once you’re in the band, you’re a part of the family and protecting their family at all costs is what they do. Unfortunately, at the moment there are very few dragon riders that have chosen to be a gypsy and since they lack the adequate space and shelter to provide for a nesting female dragon, if they want their dragon rider numbers to grow, they must risk everything to raid the nests of Kingdom dragons (a highly detested offense against the dragons themselves). Not to mention for cattle and sheep for food and clothing, they must hijack Romador livestock, for fish they must illegally fish in the Italius river (taking from the mouths of the poor folk’s children), and thieve fine jewels and other small items of luxury from the Atlerion mountains.
They do what they do with pride and will justify their sticky fingers before you can even ask them, as most of them are proud to be called a Gypsy and hardly hide their true nature. However they are quick to distrust anyone should they believe they have betrayed them. Treachery is guarded as a high offense against the bands and usually results in death. Most importantly, the young and the old, the sick and the healthy, the fat and the lean, and everyone in between are welcome if they think they can survive. Not surprisingly, if there’s an issue going on, you can almost always bet your bottom dollar that a Gypsy has secretly been at the heart of it, though they rarely pick fights –simply cause them.
3 common traits of a Gypsy:
- Guarded/jaded
- Scorned or disowned
- Clever/resourceful
Of course there are always exceptions to the standard norm, but for the most part, being a nation shocked by the Continental Collide and forced into an ancient way of society simply because that’s what was necessary at the time, there are hardly going to be any black sheep of the family because everyone knows there’s safety in numbers.
